About

Monica Demetriades was born in Nicosia Cyprus and raised in the multi-cultural city of London.

She trained at the prestigious Hornsey College of Art, later to become Middlesex University during the colourful 70’s.

Monica Demetriades is now a renowned British Cypriot Artist with over thirty years of experience in her field and her work has been highly valued worldwide.

I am happy to say that art critics I respect, such as the late Glynn Hughes, praised my work and encouraged my career.

“My art reflects my moods and feelings inspired by experiences and surroundings – be it a calming day at the beach, a busy day in the city, a hike in the mountains, a walk in the park or merely observing a starry evening sky.”

Colour

Colour is an essential part of Monica Demetriades’ approach to art. Her palate includes bright oranges, yellows and blues for contrast. The colours she chooses communicate a feeling of happiness and joy for life. Her compositions provide the structure and calmness sensed by the viewer.

Technique

Monica Demetriades enjoys using many painting media and printmaking techniques. Her passionate pursuit of art has led her to create work which is vibrant, with luscious colour, full of energy and vitality and simultaneously calming and soothing.

Monica’s art is spirited and vivacious, conjuring up an inner feeling of peace.

Exhibitions

My work is on permanent exhibition at my home gallery in Nicosia. In addition, I have exhibited in most of the major galleries in Cyprus, including Gloria Gallery, where I held my first solo exhibition combining silkscreen printing, photography and graphics.

  • Solo exhibitions at Gallery Gloria, Technis Dromena and Golden Gallery
  • Group exhibitions island-wide, including Apocalypse Gallery

Many of my paintings now hang on the walls of art collectors in Cyprus and abroad. I feel proud to share my love of Cyprus’ beauty and light with them.
